Join us for a combined ocean sustainability awareness and beach cleanup event at Enoshima on Saturday April 23rd as part of the Ocean Sustainable Ocean Fest 2022 taking place at Enoshima this weekend.
We will contribute to ocean sustainability awareness though action! Join us for a family-friendly morning session where we will partake in the traditional “jibiki ami” net fishing method at the beach of Enoshima to study the catch of local fish, but also witness the plastic by-catch that is increasing. After the fishing experience, we will engage in a session of beach cleaning on the same beach while enjoying the smell of the sea in the beautiful Enoshima surroundings.
Program
We will rally at 08:30 am on Saturday, April 23rd at Katase Enoshima train station and make our way to the beach at the bridge leading to Enoshima island.
From 09:00 to 09:45 we will join a “jibiki ami” activity organized by the local Fujisawa Young Entrepreneurs Group.
From 10:00 to 11:00 we will do beach cleaning at the same beach. All participants will receive plastic bags for collected trash and a glove for picking up litter.
After the event we recommend that you watch the Yabusame event, mounted horseback archery, taking place on the same beach from 11:00 (event info in Japanese)
About the “jibiki ami”
Organized by the local Fujisawa Young Entrepreneurs Group, we will take part in a traditional fishing method also known as seine fishing. We will take part in pulling in fishing nets that has been placed off the shore by boats. Pulling in the nets and the catch is a strenuous activity when done by hand. The fishing method was formerly conducted on the sandy beaches in Kanagawa Prefecture from Fujisawa to Odawara, and a wide variety of fish such as horse mackerel, sardines and shirasu can be caught depending on the season. About the beach cleaning
Trash bags and gloves will be provided to all participants. If you would like to use tong or similar, please bring yourself. We will do a briefing before starting about the beach cleaning and safety aspects of picking up sharp objects etc. The plastic bags and gloves, and the disposal of the collected plastic is provided by the public interest incorporated foundation Bikazaidan: www.bikazaidan.or.jp
Optional sightseeing
After the official event is finished at 11:00 we recommend you to spend a day visiting the Enoshima island, watch the ongoing Enoshima Friendship Yacht Race taking place the same weekend. tips for enjoying the surrounding area can be found on Discover Fujisawa.

４月２３日（土）に江ノ島で開催される「Action for Clean & Healthy Oceans Event」に参加して、海の持続可能性について考えましょう！
海の持続可能性について意識を高めるため江ノ島伝統の「地引網」に参加し、漁獲量とプラスチックの混獲の現状について学ぶ予定です。漁業体験後は江ノ島の美しさと磯の香りを楽しみながら、ビーチのゴミ拾いを行います。
プログラム
４月２３日（土）:
０８：３０ 片瀬江ノ島駅に集合、海岸へ移動します。
０９：００～０９：４５ 地引網体験
１０：００～１１：００ ビーチのゴミ拾い。参加者全員にゴミ袋＆軍手を配布します。
イベント終了後はご自由に江ノ島の自然をご堪能ください
地引網について
藤沢商工会議所青年部によるイベントとなります。となります。海岸に固定した網の端と、船で沖に沈めた網の端の両方を、海岸で手繰り寄せる伝統的な漁法です。手作業で網を引くのは力のいる大変な作業であり、現在は機械で行われています。以前は神奈川県藤沢市から小田原市にかけて見られ、アジやイワシ、シラスなど季節によって様々な魚が獲れます。詳しい情報はこちら: Seine fishing --- Kanagawa Prefecture homepage
ビーチ清掃について
ゴミ袋と軍手は全員分ご用意しております。その他トング等を使用される方は各自持参してください。開始前に、清掃における注意点等の説明があります。ゴミ袋・軍手・集めたプラスチック等は「公益財団法人 かながわ海岸美化財団」にて処理していただきます。
